‘Return of the King’ Cartoon Soundtrack Revisited

The Return of the King; 1980 cartoon movie

Most Lord of the Rings fans and enthusiasts are familiar with the iconic The Hobbit cartoon movie from 1977. However, there was a lesser-known sequel that followed in 1980—The Return of the King. For whatever reason, the second cartoon film, which had the same animation style and many of the same character voices, didn’t seem to take hold of viewers quite like its predecessor—the response to it being described as “lukewarm”.

But that doesn’t mean The Return of the King cartoon was without its highlights. Much like The Hobbit, the soundtrack was incredibly charming and memorable—perhaps the most memorable being the goblin war anthem “Where There’s A Whip, There’s A Way”.

That criminally catchy song has returned with new life, and it’s chock full with nostalgia. Andrew P. Oliver (who created the popular remix of ”Down Down To Goblin Town”) has continued with the LOTR theme, and released his remixed version of “Where There’s A Whip, There’s A Way”.

For fans of the J.R.R. Tolkien universe, it’s another must-hear transport through your childhood cartoon-watching days. Listen to the song below (or wherever you stream music).
