This Week: Songs You Need To Hear

As the year marches on, it’s hard to believe we’re nearing the halfway mark of 2022. I’m perpetually amazed by the quality of submissions we continue to receive. We’ll do our best to highlight a few of them this week for you to dive into. Let’s begin:

I. “Lose A Friend” by Evi Bosman

Evi Bosman

This new release from Evi Bosman is as smooth as it is compelling in substance. I have a soft spot for the types of songs that carry a lot of weight, but don’t overburden the listener with it sonically. The Netherland-based Evi walks that balance perfectly on “Lose A Friend”. The driving, mesmerizing feel of the track is an auditory well that will let you draw as much as you’d like from it.

II. “Feel it in the Air” by King Zo

King Zo

Next, we have a motivational new single by King Zo, an up and coming artist from outside of Denver who delivers an iconic-sounding vocal style. Those vocals nest themselves perfectly in the bed of his new track “Feel it in the Air”. The instrumental has a tasteful touch of jazz, riddled with saxophone samples and all the feels.

III. “Rest Stop” by Roussett

Roussett

The chorus line on Roussett’s new single “Rest Stop” oozes with a nostalgic familiarity. Anyone who’s spent long on the road knows the feeling—when your mind is drifting and you start to float away in your thoughts—it becomes almost as psychedelic as the sound Roussett has put together for us on their new release. The song embodies a feeling, birthing new memories you forgot were even there.

IV. “Libra” by juice

Moving forward, we have an explorative electronic release from Florida by-way-of-New York artist, juice. The synth-driven song is a choir of emotions, neatly placed in a driving, head-bobbing package. The tag line, “is there a way to make me not care when you leave?” emotes the mystique that you can feel throughout the piece. And the phenomenal GameBoy-themed artwork cannot be understated.

V. “Crossroad” by Losun

Losun

Losun takes us down the rabbit hole with their new release “Crossroad”. The sonic qualities of the song are masterful—it massages your ears with nothing to break or offend. It’s rare to find a pop / rock track that is so driving, yet so hypnotic. In their words, the song is about “crossing paths with someone at the 'wrong time’.” However, it feels like we crossed paths with Losun at the perfect time.

VI. “Live Again” by Jane’s Party

Jane’s Party

We finish this week’s edition on an absolute sing-a-long classic of a new song from Toronto’s Jane’s Party. The group delivers everything they stand for on the song—an unshakenly catchy hook and tight harmonies with their signature powerhouse feel—and the keyboard motifs sew it all together with incredible style. Listen for yourself and thank us later.
